Product description
Bagasse is the fibre left over after sugar cane has been pressed for juice. Moulded into a clamshell, it makes a rigid, grease-resistant takeaway box that keeps its shape with hot food inside and closes with a press-fit tab.
The 9 inch size, 230 × 230 mm, takes a burger and fries, a full breakfast, a jacket potato with fillings or a main with two sides. It can go in the microwave for reheating and copes with food up to 100 °C.
Bagasse breaks down in industrial composting, which is how food waste is handled in many council food schemes and at venues with a commercial collection. It should not go in paper recycling, because the food residue spoils the batch.
